Gerda Henkel Visiting Professorship

A visiting professorship in German Studies at Stanford, supported by the Gerda Henkel Foundation since 2009.

Gerda Henkel Visiting Professorship at Stanford

Since 2009 the Gerda Henkel Foundation has funded a teaching and research program at the Department of German Studies at Stanford University. The program is aimed at professors at German universities with distinguished scholarly accomplishments in a historical humanities discipline other than literature — such as History, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Art History or Music History — with a focus on an area within German Studies.

The Gerda Henkel Visiting Professor is normally on research leave from their home university and is appointed at Stanford for one academic quarter (three months). A stipend helps defray the costs of the visit. The Visiting Professor offers one course, typically a seminar, is fully integrated into the intellectual life of the department, and delivers one public lecture.

Applications should include a statement of interest, a full c.v. and bibliography, proposed courses, a description of teaching experience, and the preferred term of residence. Inquiries and applications may be sent to Ms. Christine Onorato at conorato@stanford.edu.
