Graduate Research & Internship Program (GRIP)

Summer internships and research visits in Germany for Stanford graduate students, funded by the Club and run with The Europe Center.

Stanford graduate student conducting research in Germany

In the fall of 2017 the Stanford Club of Germany had the idea to bring graduate students to Germany and reached out to The Europe Center at Stanford to launch GRIP. The Graduate Research and Internship Program sponsors graduate internships and research visits with German companies and research institutes each summer. The Stanford Club of Germany provides the funding.

The objective is to give Stanford graduate students from all schools and departments the opportunity to gain international experience in their fields. Students spend 8–12 weeks in Germany working in internships or conducting research in German industry, academia and research institutions.

How the program works

  • Students may identify target institutions based on their expertise and career goals; program staff help locate host sites and negotiate arrangements.
  • Applicants are encouraged to consider the full range of placements, from startups to established industry players and research institutions.
  • Exact start and end dates are determined by host and student.

Grants of up to $9,000 are awarded through The Europe Center to cover travel and basic living expenses. Awardees submit a short report two weeks after their return.
