Krupp Internship Program
Since 1982, full-time paid internships in Germany for Stanford students — over 1,250 placed across more than 550 host institutions.

Named after the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung, the Krupp Internship Program has since 1982 enabled selected Stanford students to undertake internships at leading companies and institutions across Germany, in every field and throughout the country. Participants are enrolled at Stanford in California — usually in their third year — and must previously have completed the Stanford in Berlin study program. Alongside their placement they receive intensive language instruction and courses on German and European culture, politics and economics.
Each year the Krupp Foundation hosts a three-day seminar at the historic Villa Hügel in Essen, where current and prospective interns exchange ideas with the Foundation and learn more about the Rhine–Ruhr region.
At a glance
- Duration — usually three to six months, aligned with the U.S. quarter system; exact dates arranged individually.
- Funding — host institutions are normally expected to pay an appropriate remuneration; a limited number of stipends is available for institutions that cannot. For non-mandatory internships longer than 90 days, employers must pay the statutory minimum wage (MiLoG).
- Eligibility — open only to students who have completed the Stanford in Berlin program.
- Permits & insurance — residence and work permits are arranged by the Stanford Berlin office with the DAAD and IAESTE; students are insured through Stanford or privately.
- Accommodation — finding housing is the students’ responsibility; logistical help from host institutions is very welcome but not a condition.
- Application — usually through the internship coordinators, where possible before the student arrives in Germany.
